Mr. Higgins continues the development of the American tone poem characterized by its use of orchestra and jazz. His music is fresh, imaginative and exceedingly personal, with the composer's profound appreciation of creation, matched with his artistry in performance. Doug considers himself in some respects to be a naturalist and is a musician, composer and author. He is the founder of the Montana Brass record label and publishers.
Doug Higgins is a native of Montana and has enjoyed and experienced the natural beauty of the state. From his early childhood, his father taught him to fly fish and in college he worked for the U.S. Forest Service in his hometown of Troy Montana and later began to hike in the mountains of northwestern Montana and Idaho.
This is a photo of Doug's grandfather's cornet on his great grandfather's log cabin on the Buckhorn, Yaak Montana.
