Overture to Song of Songs Oratorio 2023 Performance

Program Notes

The Overture is an introduction of a longer work, The Song of Songs, an Oratorio.

"Song of Songs is a particular book in the holy Scriptures, for it is not a book of history, law, prophecy, or gospel. It is a poem of the history of love in an excellent marrriage. It is a romance of the highest standard. The entire Bible is a romance, a love story, of God 'falling in love' with man". Quote from Life study of Song of Songs by Witness Lee; Life study one.

The mood changes throughout the overture, according to feeling expressed in the story. It contains some of the major musical themes of the oratorio.
